當動詞時 bend-bent-bent
當形容詞性質時bent至少有兩個意義：
1. 彎曲的；彎腰的
He is bent with age. 他因年老而彎腰。
2. (bent on+Ving) 專心致力的，專想的；一心想要的
He is bent on mastering French. 他專心致力於精通法文。
The boy was bent on mischief. 那男孩專想搗亂。

當名詞性質時bent意味‘傾向；愛好；志向’
follow one's bent 隨自己之所好
He had a bent for study. 他好學。他愛好學問。
a young man with a literary bent 一位嗜好文學的青年
……
名詞bent也有bent grass之意：硬（莖的）草；葦；雜草（枯硬的）莖；（蘇格蘭）荒野，曠野（moor）
